SAVING THE ARAL SEA IS A REGIONAL ISSUE

The international conference “Central Asia: towards a sustainable future through a strong regional institution”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the creation of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) in the friendly Tajik capital of Dushanbe, brought together representatives of the countries of the region.

About 500 people - heads and representatives of reputable international and regional organizations, international partners, representatives of public organizations, politicians, experts, scientists representing the founding countries of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, participated in the conference.

The decision to establish the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) was taken by the Heads of State of Central Asia at a meeting held in Tashkent on January 4, 1993, and its Charter was approved on March 26, 1993 at a meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Gyzylorda, the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The main goal of the International Fund for Saving Aral Sea (IFAS) is the development and financing of scientific and practical environmental projects and programs aimed to restore the environment and regions affected by the Aral Sea disaster, and solving socio-economic problems in the countries of Central Asia.

At this international forum, our presentation entitled “Research activities in the field of water management and agriculture at the Turkmen Agricultural Institute” received strong support. It conducts research in the soil and climatic conditions of the northern regions of the country in the agricultural training and production farm of the institute, the introduction of new water-saving technologies for growing winter wheat, cotton and other crops in the soil, early-ripening, high-fiber, high-quality cotton resistant diseases and the simultaneous improvement of meliorative conditions of lands.

Within the framework of the International forum, which was generally active, in accordance with the plan of events held on a program basis, special events were organized on important aspects of cooperation in the Aral Sea.
