A three-day training seminar entitled “Adaptation to climate change in urban and agricultural water supply” was held at the Turkmen Agricultural Institute from November 13 to 15, 2023. This seminar is supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCP) projects “Development of the National Process of Adaptation in Planning in Turkmenistan” and “Conservation and Sustainable Management of Land Resources and Natural Valuable Ecosystem in the Aral Sea Basin”, The United Nations Development Program was jointly organized with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.
This training seminar mainly discussed issues related to urban and agricultural water supply conservation and their efficient use. The seminar was attended by the representatives of Scientific Information Center of the Central Asian Intergovernmental Water Economic Coordinating Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, Dashoguz Municipal Administration, Darganata Etrap Administration of Lebap Velayat, “Daşoguzagyzsuw”, “Ruhubelentsuwhojalyk”, “Türkmenbaşysuwhojalyk”, “Daşoguzsuwhojalyk”, “Hanýapsuwhojalyk”, Representatives of “Boldumsazsuwhojalyk”, “Akdepesuwhojalyk”, “Lebapsuwhojalyk”, “Berzeňsuwaryşulgamy” state institutions, “Turkmensuwylymtaslama” Turkmen State Water Economic Scientific-Production and Project Institute, Dashoguz branch of the International Foundation for the Protection of the Aral Sea, Amu-derya water basin organization.
During the training seminar, special attention was paid to the issues of national and global impacts of climate change on water resources. On the example of the “Berzeň” irrigation system in the Danev etrap of Lebap Velayat, the participants discussed issues such as financing the use of water in the agricultural sector and saving water. In particular, taking into account the weak geographical location of Dashoguz velayat and northern regions of Lebap Velayat, topics such as use of water loss and cost- effectiveness in the water industry were expresses more effectively.
During the meeting, the participants got acquainted with the conditions created for students at our institute. They visited the virtual classroom of the NICOPA project of our institute, the classroom of the CLAAS company, the automated virtual practice room. The participants got an opportunity to get acquainted with the high-quality education provided to students at our institute, advanced solutions for agricultural mechanization and the use of geo-information technologies.
