Students Visited the Yzmykshir Fortress

In the Era of the Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State, designated as the Year of International Peace and Trust, under the guidance of our Hero Arkadag and the wise leadership of our Heroic Leader with Arkadag, great efforts are being made in our country to study, preserve, and pass on the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people to future generations. The teachers and students of our institute also make substantial contributions to this work.

As is known from history, our country has been home to world-renowned scholars, wise men, philosophers, and historical figures. Studying the historical personalities and monuments that once existed in our land is considered a sacred duty for each of us. With the aim of studying the historical figures and monuments of our province, a field trip was organized on June 18, 2025, by the Department of Social Sciences to the Yzmykshir Fortress, located in the Gorogly district of our province, on the occasion of the 950th anniversary of the birth of Mahmud al-Zamakhshari, with the participation of the institute’s students. During the trip, students were given talks about the long-standing history of this fortress. In these talks, it was explained that the fortress originated as a village in the 3rd century BCE, began to expand during the Kushan period, and was surrounded by walls and transformed into a fortress during the Afrighid period. It was noted that the fortress was located along the Chermenyap Canal and served as a small port for boats. With the arrival of the Arabs in Khwarezm, a new phase of development began for the fortress, particularly during the 10th to 13th centuries when it experienced significant growth. Students were also informed about the fortress’s internal structure, architecture, and historical research. Discussions were held about notable historical figures born in the fortress. The students also visited the mausoleum of Mahmud al-Zamakhshari located in the vicinity of the fortress. During the visit, they received engaging information about the life and works of this great scholar.

After the trip, a discussion session was held with the students. During the session, the students mentioned that the visit had left a pleasant impression on them. They also noted that it increased their pride in their ancestors.
